Butter Tart Festival Races

The Butter Tart Festival Race is a fun, family-friendly summer running event held each August at Burlington's scenic Spencer Smith Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. Organized by VR Pro Inc., the race combines a fast waterfront course with one of Canada's favourite desserts, celebrating the classic Canadian butter tart in a relaxed and welcoming festival atmosphere. Designed for runners and walkers of all ages, the event emphasizes participation, community, and fun rather than competition alone, making it an ideal race for families, first-time runners, and experienced athletes looking for a scenic summer event.

Participants can choose from 1K, 3K, and 5K distances, with both in-person and virtual race options available. The courses follow Burlington's picturesque waterfront trail system, offering flat, paved routes with views of Lake Ontario, Spencer Smith Park, and the downtown waterfront. The 3K and 5K races are professionally chip timed by Speed River Timing, while the 1K event provides an accessible introduction to road racing for children and families. Every participant receives a custom finisher medal and, fittingly, complimentary butter tarts courtesy of Longo's, giving the event its unique Canadian flavour.
