Cadbury Marathon

The Cadbury Marathon is one of Tasmania’s longest-running and most distinctive road-running events, staged each January from the Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Claremont, in the northern suburbs of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. First held in the 1980s, the event has grown into a major fixture on Tasmania’s running calendar and combines a full marathon with half-marathon, 10 km, 5 km and family-oriented 1 km events. The 2027 running will be the 44th edition of the event.

The race’s setting is undoubtedly its signature feature. All of the principal events start on Cadbury Road outside the Cadbury Chocolate Factory, with runners eventually returning to finish at the factory. It is an unusual venue for a marathon and one that has become inseparable from the identity of the event. Cadbury’s involvement carries through to the race-day atmosphere, giving the event a playful chocolate theme alongside what is otherwise a serious competitive road race.
