Capital City marathon

he Capital City Marathon is a long-running Pacific Northwest road race held each spring in Olympia, Washington, United States, the state capital of Washington. First established following Olympia’s involvement with the inaugural U.S. Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials, the event has developed into a community-focused race weekend featuring a full Marathon, Half Marathon, Five Mile race and a free Kids’ Run. The 2026 event was the 45th Capital City Marathon, continuing more than four decades of running tradition in the South Puget Sound region.

The event is organized by the Capital City Marathon Association (CCMA), a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization governed by a nine-member board of directors. CCMA traces its origins to members of the Olympia Rainrunners Club and emphasizes community participation, healthy living and accessible running events rather than operating the marathon as a commercial race. The marathon, half marathon, five mile and Kids’ Run are largely organized and staffed by volunteers, with support from local schools, businesses and community organizations.
