Dresden Marathon

The Dresden Marathon (DRESDEN-MARATHON) is a major autumn road-running event held in Dresden, Saxony, Germany, combining a full 42.195 km marathon with a half marathon, marathon relay, 10 km, 5 km and children’s races. The event is built around the slogan “Run Through History,” an appropriate description for a course that gives runners a tour through one of Germany’s most architecturally and historically significant cities.

The marathon course combines Dresden’s monumental historic centre with long stretches of parkland and riverside running. Competitors encounter the city’s famous Baroque surroundings, the historic Altstadt and Neustadt districts, and areas around the River Elbe. Dresden’s Old Town contains many of the landmarks for which the Saxon capital is internationally known, including the Frauenkirche, Semperoper, Zwinger and Brühl’s Terrace, while the route also incorporates greener sections that provide a contrast to the architectural centre of the city.
