Glencoe Marathon

The Glencoe Marathon is a spectacular and demanding point-to-point trail marathon through the mountains of the Scottish Highlands, taking runners from Fort William toward Glencoe, Scotland, United Kingdom. Organised by WildFox Events Ltd, the race is part of the Glencoe Marathon Gathering, which also includes a half marathon. Rather than a conventional road race, the Glencoe Marathon is designed as a mountain-running adventure, combining rugged trails, sustained climbing and descending, exposed Highland terrain and some of Scotland’s most celebrated scenery.

The full marathon begins at Lochaber Leisure Centre in Fort William, close to the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. From there, runners follow an ancient route through the mountains toward Glencoe, with sections following the famous West Highland Way. The journey takes competitors through the dramatic landscape surrounding the Mamores before reaching Kinlochleven, where the half-marathon runners join the course. From Kinlochleven comes another substantial climb toward one of the event’s signature features, the Devil’s Staircase, before runners continue toward the finish at Glencoe Mountain Resort.
