The Halloween Races is one of Hamilton's most entertaining themed running events, bringing together fitness, costumes, and spooky fun along the city's waterfront each October. Held at the historic HMCS Haida National Historic Site, the event transforms the race venue into a Haunted Carnival, complete with eerie decorations, themed entertainment, music, costume contests, and Halloween-inspired race-day activities. Designed for runners, walkers, and families alike, the event encourages participants of all ages to embrace the Halloween spirit by dressing in creative costumes while enjoying a professionally organized road race in one of Hamilton's most scenic waterfront settings.
Participants can choose from 1K, 5K, and 10K in-person races, as well as virtual 5K and 10K options. The courses begin and finish at HMCS Haida National Historic Site / HMCS Star before following flat paved routes along Hamilton's waterfront, providing beautiful views of Hamilton Harbour and Lake Ontario. While the courses are suitable for runners chasing personal bests, the emphasis is firmly on fun and community, with Halloween music, themed aid stations, and plenty of opportunities for memorable photos throughout the morning. Costume participation is strongly encouraged, and awards are presented for the best-dressed runners, adding another layer of excitement to an already festive event. Every finisher receives a unique Pennywise-inspired finisher medal, while additional race swag, hot chili, trophies, and costume prizes make the finish-line celebration one of the highlights of the local racing calendar.
