Itoshima Nijo Trail Running Race

The Itoshima Nijo Trail Running Race is a scenic trail-running event held in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, combining the beaches of the Genkai Sea with the mountainous terrain surrounding Mount Nijo. The event was created to showcase the less-explored Nijo area of Itoshima and offers runners an unusually varied course that transitions from the seashore into forested mountain trails before climbing to panoramic viewpoints overlooking the coastline and the city below.

Itoshima has become a popular destination within easy reach of central Fukuoka, known for its coastline, cafés, restaurants and outdoor recreation. The Nijo district occupies the western side of Itoshima and provides a more rural counterpart to the city’s better-known coastal destinations. The race organizers specifically identify discovering and promoting the attractions of the former Nijo Town area as one of the event’s principal objectives, alongside promoting Itoshima as a desirable place to live and visit and showcasing local food.
