Joao Pessoa Marathon

The João Pessoa Marathon (Maratona de João Pessoa) is one of Brazil’s fastest-growing destination marathons, combining competitive road racing with the stunning tropical coastline of northeastern Brazil. Held annually in João Pessoa, the capital of the state of Paraíba, the event welcomes thousands of runners from across Brazil and abroad to experience one of South America’s most scenic marathon weekends.

Organized by RUN, the João Pessoa Marathon has quickly established itself as one of Brazil’s premier road races since its inaugural edition in 2023. The event offers four race distances, 42.195 km, 21.097 km, 10 km, and 5 km, making it accessible to everyone from first-time runners to experienced marathoners pursuing personal bests. The courses begin at the iconic Busto de Tamandaré in the Cabo Branco waterfront district before following João Pessoa’s beautiful Atlantic coastline, known for its palm-lined beaches, warm tropical climate, and spectacular sunrise views.

Race weekend extends beyond the competition itself with a multi-day Expo Run, race kit collection, sponsor exhibitions, and community activities leading into Sunday’s races. The event attracts more than 7,000 participants from every region of Brazil, creating an energetic festival atmosphere throughout the city while generating significant tourism and economic activity for João Pessoa.
