Lake Saroma 100km Ultra Marathon

The Lake Saroma 100km Ultra Marathon is one of Japan’s most prestigious and historic ultramarathons, taking runners on an extraordinary point-to-point journey through the wide-open landscapes of eastern Hokkaido. Staged around Lake Saroma, Japan’s third-largest lake, the race has become one of the country’s benchmark tests of ultradistance endurance and attracts experienced runners from across Japan and overseas.

Rather than being confined to a single city, the event crosses three municipalities in Hokkaido: Yubetsu, Saroma and Kitami, Japan. The flagship 100 km race begins in front of the Yubetsu General Gymnasium in Yubetsu, follows a long route around the Lake Saroma region, and finishes at the Tokoro Sports Center in Kitami City. The accompanying 50 km race begins at Saroma Town’s 100-Year Square before joining the journey toward the same finish in Kitami. The course is both AIMS-certified and Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) certified.
