Marathon Tangamanga

The BMW Marathon Tangamanga (Maratón Internacional Tangamanga) is one of Mexico’s oldest and most prestigious road running events. First established in 1983, the race has become a longstanding tradition in the city of San Luis Potosí, attracting thousands of runners from across Mexico and around the world each year. Named after the Huastec word “Tangamanga,” meaning water and gold, the event celebrates both the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region while showcasing one of Mexico’s premier running destinations.

Held in San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the marathon offers runners a scenic course through the historic city streets and the expansive Tangamanga Park, one of the largest urban parks in Latin America. Participants enjoy a route that combines tree-lined park roads, urban boulevards, and historic architecture, providing an engaging mix of natural scenery and city atmosphere. The race’s moderate elevation—approximately 1,900 metres (6,200 feet) above sea level—adds an extra challenge for visiting runners while offering a unique racing experience unlike many sea-level marathons.
