Sahara Marathon

The Sahara Marathon is one of the world’s most unique and socially meaningful road races, held in the Sahrawi refugee camps near Tindouf, Algeria, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Runners race through vast stretches of sand, desert plains, and camp settlements, experiencing extreme conditions and a powerful sense of cultural connection. More than a sporting event, the marathon is also a solidarity run that raises international awareness about the Sahrawi people and their long-standing humanitarian situation.
