The Sanda International Masters Marathon (δΈη°ε½ιγγΉγΏγΌγΊγγ©γ½γ³) is one of Japan's most respected road races for masters athletes while remaining open to runners of all eligible adult ages. Held annually in Sanda City, HyΕgo Prefecture, the event has become a cherished end-of-year tradition, earning the nickname of Japan's "year-end running festival." Since its inaugural edition in 1989, the race has attracted thousands of participants from across Japan and overseas, combining serious competition with a warm community atmosphere that reflects the hospitality of Sanda and the surrounding Kansai region. The flagship event is a Half Marathon (21.0975 km) accompanied by a 2 km Fun Run, making the race accessible to both experienced competitors and families. The course starts near Arimafuji Park and follows a scenic loop through Sanda City's residential districts and surrounding countryside before returning to the finish. Although the route includes several rolling hills, the cool December temperatures create favourable racing conditions, and the course has developed a reputation for producing strong performances while offering runners beautiful winter scenery.
