Shimonoseki Kaikyo Marathon

The Shimonoseki Kaikyo Marathon is a major Japanese road marathon held each autumn in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, at the westernmost tip of Honshu. Known for spectacular waterfront scenery and an equally memorable level of difficulty, the race takes runners along both the Kanmon Strait and the Hibiki Sea, offering sweeping coastal views while challenging participants with substantial elevation changes in the latter portions of the course. The organizers themselves describe it as one of western Japan’s more difficult marathon courses because of its repeated climbs and descents.
