Uppsala Marathon

The Uppsala Marathon is one of Sweden’s most scenic autumn marathons, combining historic landmarks, Viking heritage, riverside paths, and a lively city-center atmosphere. Held in the university city of Uppsala, the race starts and finishes at the iconic Uppsala Castle and takes runners through centuries of Swedish history. Participants pass along the banks of the Fyrisån River, through the heart of the city, and toward the ancient royal mounds of Old Uppsala, one of Scandinavia’s most important Viking-era sites. The course is known for being relatively flat and fast while still offering plenty of sightseeing opportunities.

Since its inaugural edition in 2016, the race has grown steadily and now attracts thousands of runners across the marathon, half marathon, and relay events. The event has become one of central Sweden’s premier road races and is recognized for its strong community atmosphere, enthusiastic spectators, and mix of urban and historical scenery. In recent years participation has exceeded 2,000 runners, reflecting the race’s growing popularity both within Sweden and internationally.
