Whistler Half Marathon

The Whistler Half Marathon is a scenic mountain running event held annually in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, on the first Saturday of June. Set against the Coast Mountains and based at Whistler Olympic Plaza, the event has evolved from its origins as a conventional road half marathon into a predominantly trail-based running festival designed to immerse participants in the forests, lakes and mountain scenery surrounding one of Canada’s best-known resort communities. The weekend now features a Half Marathon, 32K, 10K, 5K and Kids Run, along with a broader program of outdoor and community activities.

The event is organized by Coast Mountain Trail Running (CMTR), the British Columbia trail-running organization that currently operates the Whistler Half Marathon. The race was originally founded by Whistler resident Dave Clark, who conceived the event after travelling elsewhere in British Columbia to run half marathons and wondering why Whistler did not have one of its own. Clark also wanted the event to help raise funds for research into inflammatory bowel disease through Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Planning began in 2010 and the inaugural Whistler Half Marathon was staged in 2011.
