Set against the spectacular backdrop of Japan’s iconic Yatsugatake Mountains, the Yatsugatake Highlands Half Marathon is one of the country’s most scenic autumn road races. Held on the picturesque Yatsugatake Highlands in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, the event combines crisp mountain air, vibrant fall colours, and panoramic views stretching across both the Yatsugatake mountain range and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The race begins and finishes at Kiyosato no Mori (Kiyosato Forest), taking participants onto the officially certified half marathon course along the Yatsugatake Highlands Line. The route winds through forests, open highland roads, and peaceful countryside, creating an atmosphere that feels distinctly different from Japan’s large urban marathons.
