The Yerevan Marathon is the largest road running event in Armenia and has become one of the country’s premier annual sporting festivals. Organized by the Arm Marathon Foundation, the event brings together thousands of runners from Armenia and abroad each October to race through the historic streets of the nation’s capital. Since its inaugural edition, the marathon has grown into an internationally recognized event featuring a full marathon, half marathon, 12 km, 5 km, and children’s 1 km race. The event is professionally chip timed, with the half marathon carrying official AIMS certification and the marathon continuing to strengthen its international profile. Alongside the racing, the weekend includes a race expo, pasta party, charity initiatives, and community volunteer programs that transform the marathon into one of Armenia’s biggest celebrations of running.
Held in Yerevan, Armenia, the marathon showcases many of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and neighborhoods. The marathon, half marathon, and 12 km races begin and finish at Shahumyan Square, while the shorter races are staged in the scenic Hrazdan River Gorge. The marathon route winds through the historic city center before descending into the picturesque Hrazdan Gorge, giving runners a unique mix of broad boulevards, parks, riverside scenery, and views of the Armenian capital. The course combines urban landmarks with natural landscapes and provides participants with an excellent introduction to one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Water stations, medical support, electronic timing, and enthusiastic local volunteers contribute to a well-organized race experience suitable for both elite competitors and first-time marathoners.
