Yokota Frosbite Race

The Yokota Frostbite Road Race is one of Japan’s most distinctive winter running events, giving runners the unusual opportunity to race inside Yokota Air Base, the major United States Air Force installation located in the western Tokyo area. Held in Fussa, Tokyo, Japan, the event combines a fast, largely flat course with an atmosphere unlike that of a typical Japanese road race. Once runners pass through the security gates of the base, the surroundings take on a distinctly American feel, with English signage, U.S. military facilities, American-style food stands and views of aircraft and the airfield along the course.

The race is organized by the Yokota Striders Running Club, a private running organization associated with the Yokota community. The official race materials specifically note that the organizing body is a private organization and is not part of the U.S. Department of Defense or any of its components. The event has nevertheless become closely associated with Yokota Air Base and has been held for decades, with the January 2026 event marking the 45th edition of the Frostbite Road Race.
