Event Details

The Volcano Marathon is recognized as an official 42.195km, or 26.2-mile marathon on the South American continent. It is a full member of the Association of International Marathons & Distance Races (AIMS).

The marathon journey begins at Anakena Beach, with a scenic route along the sea. Runners will enjoy the rhythmic sound of waves as they follow the coastal path. The terrain is predominantly natural and unpaved. Expect to encounter dirt trails with varying textures, including grassy patches and areas with volcanic rock, especially near the Rano Kau crater. This diverse terrain demands running shoes that can handle uneven ground and provide good traction. While the natural paths offer a more authentic and enriching running experience, they also require vigilance to navigate safely. Be prepared for a beautiful yet demanding run that will take you through some of the island's most scenic landscapes.
