Reykjavik Marathon

The Reykjavik Marathon, officially known in recent years as the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon, is Iceland’s premier annual road running event, held every August in the capital city of Reykjavik. First established in 1984, the race has grown into a vibrant celebration of running and culture, taking place alongside Reykjavik Culture Night (Menningarnótt) and usually attracting thousands of participants from around the world. The event features a variety of distances to suit all levels of runners, including the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10 km race, and a 3 km fun run, set against a scenic course that winds through Reykjavik’s downtown streets, coastal paths, parks, and residential areas with views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.
