This was my first time running the Sporting Life 10K and experiencing a race of this size in the city, with about 24K racers. The event was well organized with timed corrals and plenty of support from staff, volunteers, and police. Despite the cold winds, the energizing atmosphere around us made it feel manageable. I love seeing people of all ages participate, especially mothers being cheered with flowers. Being in the city center let me fully soak in the city vibes. I think I’ve mentioned this after every race, but honestly, if you only run one 10K a year, this should be it, and the funds go toward a wonderful cause supporting kids with illnesses.
They changed the course this year due to city events, running mainly downhill from Young St & Glengrove Ave to Front St E & Cherry Street, which made it easier, along with the cold. The post-race party featured booths from major brands, though it was smaller than in previous years, likely due to the venue's size. They served iced coffee, treats, and post-run fuel, though the unripe banana wasn't very appealing, so I’ll have to wait a week to enjoy it 😊. Note: Travellers should plan their commute as the starting and finishing lines are in different parts of the city. It would be nice if the city could coordinate a shuttle bus service to facilitate traffic.

Participated in a local run supporting the chiro college. It was fun to be part of the community and support a local cause, even for just two hours. The race took place on the East Don Parkland trail, known for its scenic views of trees and the water stream. We shared the trail with the community—walkers, bikers, and runners—and everyone was very respectful. Some people even cheered us on. The race was scheduled a little later in the morning, which helped warm things up before we started. At the end, there were goodie bags, but unfortunately, no post-race events or celebrations. Overall, I found the staff and volunteers very friendly and enthusiastic. I might run this trail on my own sometime!

Probably one of the most organized races I’ve been to. We were split into corrals with staggered start times. It was a little chilly in the morning, but once we passed the 5K mark and made the roundabout, the sun warmed things up quickly, and the shade from the buildings near the 7K mark helped cool things down again. The course was mostly flat, with a small elevation around the 3-4K mark and a few shaded sections under the highway. Around the 5K and 8K marks, you can see the Prince’s Gates and Exhibition Place. My favourite part was the crowd! They were infectious this year with their enthusiasm, signage, and cheers. The pre- and post-run vibes were amazing. There were photo booths, a post-stretching area, and a few goodies from the sponsors and partners. It’s strongly advised that people travel via transit rather than by car, as getting out of the city was messy post-run. Overall, I highly recommend this race, not to mention you receive a very beautiful finisher's medal.

First race of the year! It was a memorable experience. Despite the snow, slippery conditions, and cold, the organizers created a lively, enjoyable atmosphere. Bib pick-ups were handled efficiently the same day. Everyone, despite the wet conditions, had a fantastic time running...

First race of the year! It was a memorable experience. Despite the snow, slippery conditions, and cold, the organizers created a lively, enjoyable atmosphere. Bib pick-ups were handled efficiently the same day. Everyone, despite the wet conditions, had a fantastic time running, walking, and cheering each other on. Unfortunately, the weather kept us from seeing the animals this year. We’ll try again next year! Afterwards, we were treated to warm soup or chili and some snacks. The costume contest added a unique touch of fun to the award ceremony, and it was inspiring to see people of all ages in funny animal costumes. The finisher medal was unique and a definite keepsake. This race is a perfect way to kick off the year.

There was live music, a few booths, and Lucky Charms cereal boxes for the taking at the end of the race. We received sandwiches and beer at the end, which made for a nice post-run meal as we enjoyed the awards ceremony. This was also the first event I felt truly acknowledged the charity in an effective and fun way.
The course itself was not difficult, given that it was relatively flat and offered a bit of scenery between the highway and trees. I enjoyed the fact that there were pacers who were very enthusiastic and visible throughout the race.

The downside was that the markings for this year’s race distance were short by 0.3 km. I think the second loop for the 10 km run is inaccurate, and perhaps more volunteers on the actual routes would help, as they seemed few and far between.

The race bib pickup was at The Runners Shop, which also had a strong, friendly community of people and staff. It was in an accessible location by car and transit. We went bright and early on Saturday morning, so there wasn't much traffic, and in general, they were very organized.

The race-day crowd was wonderful. Despite the heavy rain for the 5K runners this year, the racers and crowd were in good spirits, cheering each other on. The High Park roads have many hills, most of which were beneficial for running downhill, but the “Kill the Hill” challenge ...

The High Park roads have many hills, most of which were beneficial for running downhill, but the “Kill the Hill” challenge during the last leg of the race was a killer. My legs burned immediately. In any case, I still managed a PR, so I was ecstatic and found the course totally doable.

Overall, it was a well-organized event. The racers were split into their corrals. There were many sponsored booths, free post-run refreshments, and the $5 pancakes to enjoy. I will most likely do the run again.

The only downside is that the race pick-up needs a bit more organization, but that’s likely inevitable during the evening pick-up times.
